A unibrow (or monobrow as it is sometimes known) is the name given to when a person’s eyebrows grow together. While the unibrow is making a comeback, in general, thin, clearly defined eyebrows are still largely preferred to bushy ones. If you are trying to get rid of your unibrow, you have a few options for eyebrow shaping. At Burbank Aesthetic Medical Spa, we offer a method that we feel works better than manual methods. Unibrow laser hair removal is the high-tech solution to an age-old problem.
How to Prevent Growing a Unibrow
A common method of avoiding unibrows is by tweezing eyebrow hairs. However, plucking only lasts for a month or two, at best. If you have hair that grows quickly, it may be even less time than that. Tweezing runs the risk of snapping hairs rather than yanking out the roots. This can lead to ingrown hairs, which will look very unsightly on your face. Tweezing is also, obviously, quite painful and routinely causes skin irritation. Depilatory creams are another option, but must be tested on other parts of the body before you use them on your face, as the abrasive chemicals that burn through hair can also easily damage your skin. If you already know you have sensitive skin, it is recommended to avoid depilatory creams entirely.
Waxing is another method you may have considered or tried for getting rid of a unibrow, but waxed strips are a poor choice for those suffering with or taking medication for acne. It should also be avoided if you have irritated or sunburned skin, if you possess warts or moles in that area, and or have sensitive skin. Shaving is an option that some take, but should be undertaken with a special eyebrow razor. Shaving cream or gel should be used to cut down on skin irritation or nicks. It’s also important to shave in the direction of growth so as to avoid ingrown hairs as much as possible. Shaving, like hair removal cream, only trims rather than removes the hair, so it must be repeated more often.
Laser Eyebrow Hair Removal
The method we at Burbank Aesthetic Medical Spa recommend for unibrow removal is eyebrow laser hair removal. This procedure works by directing laser light beams at the area of the unibrow the client wants made sparser. It works most effectively at targeting dark hair on light skin, but modern laser machines can calibrate for any combination of hair and skin tone. After laser hair removal treatment, you’ll find that treated hairs will fall out gradually over the next week or so. The skin in the affected area will look and feel as if it has undergone a mild sunburn, but natural skin rejuvenation will take care of that over the following week so long as you keep the area out of the sun. Working on a small area like unibrow hair should take half an hour at the longest, working with an experienced laser technician. That said, it may be necessary to return a couple of times to ensure that all of the hair-producing follicles in the area have been treated.
